Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is a richly woven tapestry of four women’s lives and how the lies they tell break them apart. Each one a wonderfully deep and flawed person, it follows two sisters, twins, and mothers to two girls, who’s own stories are affected heavily by their mothers’ actions. I felt touched by each of their stories, but especially Desiree and Jude’s. The ending left me heartbroken.

I found it a little slow at the beginning, but once I got into it, I didn’t want to put the book down. The plot tracks over 20-30 years of their lives; an incredibly detailed retelling of their experiences and feelings, of ethnicity, love and family. Well worth a read.
